The Kawhatau Outdoor Centre has a limit of 100 guests. The Centre has 60 beds - tents, camper-vans and motor-homes are permitted.
The Centre has 6 dorm rooms that each sleep up to 8 people in bunks. Within this block are two ablution blocks which have 2 toilets and 3 showers in each. In the Old Principals House, to which the kitchen and main dining/lounge area are attached are 3 bedrooms that sleep 4 people each in bunks, a separate toilet and a bathroom with a shower and vanity.
Sleeping bags are fine. The mattresses have got covers on them although we recommend bringing a fitted sheet as well.
We know things change.
If we receive your cancellation two (2) weeks or more before your stay we will return your deposit, but if it is within the two (2) weeks prior to your booking, we will need to retain the deposit as this may incur loss of business for the centre.
Yes there is a phone that you can use for local call, or that people can reach you on. The number is (06) 382-5516.
There is a toll bar on the phone so you will not be able to make any national calls.
We like to listen to the sound of the birds and the wind in the trees, so no internet here sorry
There is no cell coverage at the Centre itself, but you can walk out the gate...turn left and walk 150 metres and coverage starts along with mobile data. Watch out for teenagers!
Dogs are permitted but MUST BE SUPERVISED OR TIED UP AT ALL TIMES, they are not allowed in any of the buildings.
